The FitFlop footbed is made of multi-density EVA, which is a type of odour-free (and non-absorbent) foam that is used in many type of footwear. The outsole is currently made of rubber.
FitFlop footwear is biomechanist developed, and built on a patent-pending, triple-density microwobble board™ midsole that was inspired by the techniques and equipment used by physical therapists in FitFlop's joint injury rehabilitation. The technology originated at London South Bank University in England, and was engineered there by Dr David Cook and Darren James at the Center for Human Performance.
